40 Instagram Photos of Newcastle

You know when you see those amazing blog posts like ’10 unbelievable Instagram photos that will make you want to live forever in….’? Or, the sarcastic alternative like ’10 reasons why you’d never want to live in the North’ but really it means the opposite? Well this post isn’t really either of those – sorry!

I was recently part of a collaboration with another blog when I was asked to fill in a questionnaire about my home city (it’s not live yet but I’ll probs def share it in all the usual places when it is), and one of the things I had to do was provide a photo to support my answers. I found it really hard choosing one!

When I actually took the time to go through my Instagram to find one the first thing I noticed is that I have loads and couldn’t choose a favourite, or one that I felt summed up the whole city in all it’s Geordie glory. Actually I’m lying the first thing I noticed is how dreadful some of my oldest photos are – going back to 2012 (has Instagram been around that long?!) , but thankfully since then my skills have improved slightly and iPhone cameras have improved greatly.

So yah, here’s my favourite Instagram photos of Newcastle, all 40 of them, all taken on a phone, some are very obvious, and some are just my favourite little corners.

The Tyne Bridge

One of those sights you never get tired of seeing.

The Millennium Bridge

The newest bridge on the quayside and usually a pedestrian and cyclist bridge unless something needs to get through and then it ‘blinks’.

Grey Street and Theatre Royal

Actually I have loads of this part of Newcastle, so here’s a gallery. They don’t name it one of the prettiest streets in the UK for nothing…

Monument

Grey’s monument and the metro station. I like this view from Jamie Oliver’s restaurant or The Botanist terrace as well.

The Castle Keep

I once did a ghost walk around here. Didn’t see any ghosts but the castle and old walls are pretty. The thousand steps around this area from the river are less inviting however.

Kieran didn’t pose for this he actually thought he was out of shot haha.

St James Park

I’ve been a frequent visitor since the age of 5, but I no longer take the usual photo of the pitch before every game! Here’s St James from the top of Eldon Square car park instead. This is a very old instagram photo FYI.

And my favourite match day pubs

I used to go to the Trent with my grandad, loved the old Newcastle Brown Ales even though this photo is hideously bad.

Dean Street

An absolute bitch of a street to walk up, and even worse to walk down in heels. I now get Ubers from the top of Grey Street to the bottom of Dean Street I’m that affected by the walk. Nevertheless the street is one of my favourites.

My favourite cafe, Cafe Royal

Brentwood Ave

The general attitude around town.

To how much we all enjoy a beverage outside on any terrace, rooftop or beer garden we can find on the one nice weekend of the year!

Not forgetting the annual visit of The Hoppings either.

So that’s my take on Instagram photos of Newcastle. For some actually really decent and proper photos I would point you in the direction of Toon Photography on Twitter. I’ve yet to see photos of Newcastle better than the one’s he is constantly churning out!

All of these photos can be found on my Instagram at sfox379.

I love the photo of the roof top view! I’m going to Castle Keep this Wednesday for a late night photography course when’s it’s closed to the public, I’ve been told there’s a lot of stairs but it’s worth it!
