Pink Lane Bakery

One of the most popular bakeries in Newcastle, Pink Lane Bakery have expanded from their original branch on Pink Lane in the centre of Newcastle, to a number of other premises across the North East. Offering a range of bread choices, pastries, bakes and cakes you can also find them on Gosforth High Street, and very soon Acorn Road in Jesmond. 

They’re often at a number of markets across the North East including Jesmond food market every other Saturday, and sometimes the Quayside market. Their focaccia bread is amazing, as are their pasties and sandwiches. If you are looking for a celebration cake then they also do showstoppers to suit your taste.

Northern Rye

Find this artisan bakery by the river in Ouseburn, open Tuesday to Saturday serving their breads, croissants and even cronuts alongside great coffee. There’s a reason there is always a queue outside of here – they’re that good.

Stop by as part of a day out in Ouseburn or early morning for a coffee by the river.

Pure Knead

If you’re looking for a sourdough you can’t go wrong with Pure Knead. They began at Tynemouth market and then a premises on Park View in Whitley Bay, which is a gorgeous bakery serving their breads and bakes. Due to their success they also opened a branch on Dean Street in Newcastle in 2021, which is another lovely little spot.

They do delicious cakes and tarts as well as breads, that are often seasonal and beautifully prepared and decorated. Try their friands they’re unbelievable!

The French Oven

A hidden gem in the Grainger Market, the French Oven pride themselves on their loaves, buns, scones and pastries. They’re also pretty well known for their French macarons too which are as good as the real thing. 

They do delivery through Grainger Market delivery, and they also do a takeaway afternoon tea box from £11 per person.

Big River Bakery

The Big River Bakery is located in Shieldfield, and they also have another location in Teesside. You may recognise them as the place the Hairy Bikers said did the best stotties ever. 

As well as their hand made loaves and other breads and bakes, they run a bakery employability program for aspiring bakers

Batch

Batch bakery in Jesmond may be small but they are full of flavour. Found on Clayton Road they do all the usual breads, pastries and croissants, but they also do fabulous takeaway breakfast boxes filled with treats.

They used to have facilities to sit in but it is now just a takeaway, however the queue outside waiting to pick up a croissant or slice of cake shows they haven’t compromised on quality. The flavoured croissants are amazing, they’re absolutely huge as are the pastries so they’re excellent value for money.

Fenwick Food Hall

The bakery in Fenwick food hall always smells amazing as you walk through. Mason & Rye is a patisserie that specialises in gorgeous little cakes and tarts, and big show stopper cakes. The skilled pastry chefs make them fresh each day. Get one to go alongside your coffee, or for dessert after a lunchtime sandwich or salad that you can enjoy in their cafe area.

From the food hall you can also pick up bread, sourdoughs and all sorts of different loaves to take home with you too, as well as a big selection of biscuits and preserves to go with them from the deli.

Bread Point

Bread Point is a unique Chinese bakery on Low Friar Street, and they deliver bread and buns with a difference. They have a range of Chinese breads that include flavours such as egg yolk buns and custard bread on offer, as well as bubble teas.

Kennedy & Rhind

Pies, tarts and sourdoughs are what Kennedy & Rhind specialise in, from their bakery on Holly Avenue in West Jesmond. Their bakers are very experienced, so expect quality products and seasonal creations. 

Expanding on their menu a bit, the breads include focaccia, sourdough, wholemeal and granary, sweet treats such as flavoured croissants and Danish pastries, and savoury choices such as quiche, pies and pasties.
