Dog Friendly Glamping & Lodge Stays Northumberland

A Luxury Stay At Cabin Walk, Newton Hall Estate

Cabin Walk is a brand new 17 cabin complex that opened at the start of June 2022 on the Newton Hall Estate. What was previously a caravan park has been transformed into a village of luxury cabins, that welcome guests of between 2-4 people. Here’s what to expect from Cabin Walk, Newton Hall.

Disclaimer: I received a one night complimentary stay at Cabin Walk, but I wasn’t obligated to write this review.

Newton Hall is owned by The Apartment Group, who also have the Joiners Arms, Le Petit Chateau and a number of bars in Newcastle.

They’ve invested so much money in the new Cabin Walk at Newton Hall, and it’s really going to pay off because they cabins are beautiful – I thought it was going to be like a glamping experience but it was beyond that, more like a hotel room with a private terrace and garden.

Where is Cabin Walk?

Newton Hall is on the Northumberland Coast, at Newton by the Sea. From Newcastle it took about an hour drive, and the cabins are right next door, you can’t miss them, they’re well sign posted. There is a big car park on site right next to the check in hut where you pick up your key and can be shown to your cabin.

From this spot you can explore the Northumberland coast including Newton beaches, the countryside, and popular towns such as Alnwick, Alnmouth, Warkworth and further North places like Craster, Bamburgh and Beadnell.

The cabins are in the grounds of Newton Hall, and the Joiners Arms which is where you get your breakfast included is just a 2 minute drive or 5 minute walk away. It’s very secluded, private, and peaceful up there, lots of country fresh air and beautiful views so you can really switch off.

The cabins have all been decorated to the highest standard, with themes of Nordic, Scandi, Retro or Miami style decor. Each one has its own unique features, but they all come with a kitchen area, a comfy bed, robes and slippers, towels and a terrace and fire pit.

Many of them have hot tubs, or an outdoor shower, and all are dog friendly. Every detail has been thought of, and finished to the highest standard – they’re honestly not a glamping experience they’re more like beautiful hotel rooms with private outdoor areas and hot tubs.

Our cabin was a family one so it slept four, with a big double bed that was just amazing, and double bunk beds. There’s three other sizes of cabin including the Ultimate, the Double Detached and the Cosy. The entire side of our cabin was glass and the door pulled back onto the private garden deck and grass area.

We had two loungers and the hot tub out there, as well as the fire pit. Inside we had a small seating area, the en suite bathroom which was gorgeous with gold details, a table and four chairs, and a fully equipped kitchen with fridge. There’s also a big TV too, and black out curtains for when you’re ready for bed.

We wasted no time opening the wine and getting in the hot tub for the afternoon! Despite the cabins being in quite close proximity of each other, they are also very private. We had a great time getting through our rosé in the sunshine.

Within a very short space of time you’ll feel like you’ve been away for ages. It’s so peaceful and even if the weathers not as sunny as we had it, the hot tubs are under the terrace roof so you’re sheltered.

The cabins are like their own little village, with white gravel paths to wander round and you can see over the fields and countryside. A good location for walking the dog.

Catering at Cabin Walk

The cabins are all self catered, and you could take your own food – we took nibbles for the afternoon, and you can also order room service to your cabin. This can include pizzas or other dishes from the Joiners Arms. The estate butler can also come and serve you drinks at your cabin.

If you’d rather get out and about without needing to go too far, it’s a really short walk to the Joiners Arms pub, which is a traditional venue with low wooden beams and a fire for winter. It has an outside terrace area for in the summer, and it’s dog friendly.

We had dinner here as well as a few G&Ts and the food was amazing – I loved the burger, but there’s also local seafood options, traditional pub food and vegetarian options too. They serve Sunday lunch on a Sunday until 4pm.

With breakfast included as part of your stay, this is also served at the Joiners Arms. They have a continental breakfast buffet, toast and juice that you can help yourself to, and then a hot food breakfast menu that has all the usual dishes – full English, eggs benedict etc.

You don’t have to wait for this for your first coffee or the day though, there are tea and coffee choices in your cabin too.

Cabin Walk, Newton Hall doesn’t come cheap, it’s £205 per night at the cheapest rate, and this obviously varies depending on the cabin you’re in and how long you’re staying.
