A Stay At Catkin Cottage With Beadnell Bay Cottages

For a Northumberland holiday or short break up the coast, Beadnell is an ideal village for a stay with everything on your doorstep – pubs, beer gardens, the beach, cafes and in a central spot for exploring other Northumberland coastal towns such as Seahouses, Bamburgh and Craster. Earlier this I had the pleasure of staying right in the heart of Beadnell at Catkin Cottage, a three bedroom spacious cottage by Beadnell Bay Cottages.

It’s hard to choose a favourite of the Northumberland seaside towns, but Beadnell is definitely on the list. Catkin Cottage is in prime location just 2 minutes walk along from the pubs in the centre of Beadnell village. There have been some new build housing estates nearby, but Catkin Cottage is right in the centre, and is a charming three-bedroom detached bungalow that provides everything you need for a comfortable escape, whether you’re visiting with family, friends, or even bringing along your dog.

Checking in to Catkin Cottage With Beadnell Bay Cottages

Check in to Catkin Cottage is self check in, and you’re provided the code to the keypad prior to arriving. There is a big driveaway that fits two cars, and the instructions sent ahead of your arrival make it easy to find. Beadnell isn’t the biggest so you won’t get lost.

On entering you find yourself in the utility room, which has a washer, hooks for coats, storage space and has cleaning equipment, buckets and spades and everything else you might need – but want kept out the way. It’s a really useful space especially for a property so close to the beach. If you’re into paddle boarding, sea dipping or any sort of beach/water sport you could store all your equipment here without bringing it into the living areas of the cottage.

Catkin Cottage Overview

The cottage has three good size bedrooms, two are very spacious double bedrooms, each equipped with ample storage space, seating areas, and TVs. The third bedroom is a cosy twin room complete with adorable shark and whale soft toys that kids will love.

For added convenience, the bungalow features two bathrooms—one en suite off the master bedroom and a family bathroom, each equipped with both baths and showers. The family bathroom is next to the second double, and this area can also be closed off via a door for more privacy.

One of the highlights of Catkin Cottage is the amount of space for everyone to spread out and relax. There are two living areas, the main living room which is a decent size with huge comfy sodas, and the conservatory room that leads off it. Both are great areas to enjoy for cosy evenings in, but offer separation if there are a few of you or are staying with kids. The conservatory leads straight out to the private garden.

The private enclosed garden is complete with a grass area, patio area, BBQ and outdoor dining furniture. It’s a lovely spot for al fresco meals during the warmer months or simply relaxing with a good book while being sheltered from the Northumberland coastal breeze.

Back inside and whether you’re cooking up a feast or enjoying a leisurely breakfast, Catkin Cottage has no shortage of dining spaces. The kitchen is traditional with lots of bench space, and an island that seats four, ideal for casual meals or chatting while preparing dinner. I worked remotely here for a day during my stay.

There’s also a separate dining area with a larger table at the opposite end of the living room to the conservatory, if you wanted a more formal eating arrangement.

Family and Dog-Friendly

If you’re bringing kids or pets along, Catkin Cottage has you covered. The property is dog-friendly, with that utility room that’s great for storing all your dog’s essentials, as well as any beach gear like buckets and spades.

Aside from all the space, multiple bathrooms, and various living areas that can be used as breakout areas so you’re not all on top of each other, Catkin Cottage has very good wifi, Netflix on the TV, games in the cupboard and lots of books in the cottage too. There is a local children’s playground just down the street too, and of course the beach.

Beadnell Village

Where the cottage is really is ideal. Both for peace and quiet but also for what is within a very short walking distance. The two village pubs, Beadnell Towers and The Craster Arms are minutes down the street.

Beadnell Bay beach isn’t far, as well as the Landing in the car park which is a great spot for lunch, coffee and cake or even an evening meal if you wanted somewhere less pub and more rustic beach spot. The stunning Northumberland coastline is also on your doorstep, with towns like Seahouses, Bamburgh and Craster not too far away.

Lisa, the owner of Catkin Cottage, is a wonderful host, and there are property managers on hand to assist with any additional needs if you need anything. You’ll be provided with their numbers in case you need to get a hold of them.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing break like I enjoyed on this occasion, or an adventure-filled outdoorsy Northumberland holiday, Catkin Cottage in Beadnell is a great choice for a Northumberland staycation. It would be ideal for longer stays, as you could unpack and make yourselves right at home.
