Blogmas: Christmas Treats From Cafe’s & Bakeries In The North East
Like they always do the cafes and bakeries of the North East are delivering on the Christmas treats. Yes we all go for the usual mass produced chocolate oranges, Malteser reindeers, boxed mince pies, but you can’t beat freshly baked goods that are home made on the day. I’ve been gradually trying some of these over the last couple of weeks, and still have a few more to go on my list, so here’s my picks of Christmas treats from cafes and bakeries in the North East.
Because of the independent nature of most of these places, some of them have limited orders available. So please check the availability and dates for last orders for all of them to avoid being disappointed. They’re all really clear either on their social channels or websites when they’re open over the festive season, last dates for deliveries, and how many orders they can physically cope with.
Pet Lamb Patisserie, Grainger Market
The girls at Pet Lamb Patisserie have a big range of Christmas goodies available to buy from their little shop in the Grainger Market. They’ve got mince pie cupcakes and mine pie brownies, Bailey’s chocolate cupcakes and Christmas Rocky Road, to name a few. They always taste good.
Cake Stories, Jesmond & Hoult’s Yard
My favourite cake shop in Newcastle, because they’re just so good and both venues are lovely to visit. I’m always partial to their red velvet cake, but the raspberry brownio I had recently was unreal. As always they’re bringing the cosy Christmas vibes to the cafes with hot mulled drinks available as well as slices of Christmas cake, but they’re also doing these delicious looking Christmas in a box cakes. Cherry and almond brownie – yes please!
Sea You There, Cullercoats
The lovely Sea You There in Cullercoats is bringing festive cheer in the form of Christmas shortbreads, mince pies, and gingerbread lattes.
Arlo, Jesmond
Arlo Christmas cake boxes are limited in numbers, so get in quick if you like the sound of orange and date tiffin, biscotti square, lemon drizzle cake and chocka blocka cake with orange. They’re £15 each, contact Arlo to order.
Whipped Goods
Whipped Goods are based in Sunderland but often have pop ups at Local in Jesmond which is where I’ve enjoyed many a cookie from them. They’re gooey and delicious, and have the below Christmas menu available to order for delivery.
Pure Knead, Whitley Bay & Dean Street
I think Pure Knead are my favourite bakery in the North East, they’re on Park View in Whitley Bay but have also recently opened another shop on Dean Street and it is beautiful. They have a lot of lovely Christmas treats to either eat yourself or to give as gifts, or put in a hamper. They have mince pie kits to make your own at home, stolen bites, full Christmas cakes, and custard tarts for Christmas Eve. They do have limited availability so get your orders in quick!
Pink Lane Bakery, Gosforth & Newcastle
My favourite thing to get from Pink Lane Bakery is their focaccia bread, but they’re also making, baking and shopping Christmas cakes and mince pies across the UK. Don’t they look amazing all wrapped up? They come in different sizes, and you can also buy fig and whisky Christmas pudding, sourdough stollen, gingerbread cookies, mince pies and florentines from their Christmas shop here. Still time to order before Christmas at the time of this post going live.
Batch Bakery, Jesmond
Remember the takeaway breakfast boxes from Batch that I thoroughly enjoyed earlier in the year? I spoke about them in this post, well they’re currently doing Christmas breakfast boxes! You can find the full list of everything they include on the instagram post below, but honestly these were so good and you get so much food they’ll last for at least two breakfasts for two or the whole family. I really enjoyed them I’m trying to figure out a date I can order one. They’re available at weekends and nearer to Christmas, check out their instagram for full details and to order.
Great British Cupcakery, Newcastle
The Great British Cupcakery have Christmas treats on offer in store, and they’re doing Christmas Eve treat boxes available to order too.
Dil & the Bear, Whitley Bay & Tynemouth
The two Dil & the Bear cafes at the coast always have lovely seasonal cakes, including cupcakes, slices of showstoppers in the cafes, and cake pops.
Proven Goods, Hoult’s Yard
My favourite donuts in the whole world, Proven Goods are delicious. I got a box of these last Christmas and they barely lasted a day. The festive menu is in full swing and just some of the ones that stick in my mind are the chocolate orange glazed donuts pictured below, mince pie donuts, spiced plum Victoria sponge donuts, and Nutella & almond frangipane donut puddings. Wow.
1901, Gosforth
Finally we have Christmas cookies from 1901 in Gosforth.
Let me know if you order any!
