Coffee Shops On Newcastle Quayside
The Newcastle quayside is one of the most iconic parts of the city thanks to its beautiful bridges and skyline, that many enjoy seeing as they arrive by train and cross the river. If you’re going for a walk, browsing the market, or just enjoying the view, here are the coffee shops on Newcastle quayside where you can pick up some caffeine to go, or sit and enjoy.
The following coffee shops are all on the Newcastle side of the quayside, which has the long stretch of promenade by the river that you can walk right the way along. The quayside is also home to the famous quayside market on a Sunday, and has a whole array of bars, pubs, restaurants and cafes.
The Cycle Hub
The Cycle Hub is open daily from 8:30, and their on-site cafe kitchen serves sandwiches, snacks, cakes, cold drinks including beer, and of course great coffee. They have a kitchen hatch which they open to allow for takeaways if you don’t want to sit. Overall a great place to enjoy the view of the whole Newcastle quayside while you enjoy your coffee.

The Hooch
Right on the corner, The Hooch is a cafe/bar that opens from 10:30am Tuesdays to Sundays, and is another one that offers spectacular views from its big corner window over the river. They offer coffees and hot chocolates to enjoy sitting in, with pastries, scones and cakes.

Starbucks at Malmaison
I prefer to go to independent places as much as possible, but if you like your Starbucks then there is one as part of the Newcastle Malmaison which is right on the Quayside, They have some tables but it is primarily takeaway.
Greggs
Another chain but I have to admit the Greggs coffee is very good, and they have a branch right on the Quayside. The queue outside gets longer as the day goes on, but it’s a good one if you’re an early bird, commuting or perhaps still up from the night before as they open at 6:30am, or 7:30am on Sundays.
Little Coffee Bean
The Little Coffee Bean is a tuk tuk van, that is mobile across the city as well as their base in Newcastle City Library. They can often be found on the quayside on Sundays when the Quayside market is on. They serve local North East coffee from Holy Island and they promote sustainability through all their cup and cup lid materials. They are also available for events.

Coffee On The Quayside
Another mobile coffee van, Coffee On The Quayside parks up to serve your coffee on weekday mornings from 7:15am – 2:30pm, as well as a selection of sandwiches.
Little Coffee Shop Under the Bridge
This little coffee shack is right next to the archway at the end of the Swing Bridge, and they serve up coffees, milkshakes and hot chocolates for takeaway. You could easily miss it but the coffee here gets really good reviews.
Pitcher & Piano
It may be more known for being a pub/bar, but the Newcastle Pitcher & Piano is right on the Quayside and opens at 11am – perfect coffee drinking time. Sit inside without missing out on the views as the walls are all glass so you can see out over the bridges and the river, or if the weather is good there is plenty of outside seating.
Urban Garden
The Urban Garden is right on the Quayside and they open daily midweek from 12pm, and weekends from 9am. Brought by Brew Dog, they are a bar and are doing their best to be sustainable and environmentally friendly, and as well as the bar they have a Coffee Pop stand serving up hot drinks. The menu covers coffee, teas and hot chocolates to sit in the garden with or to take away.

Quay Ingredient
Just behind the front of the Quayside is Queen Street and there are some coffee gems here including Quay Ingredient. It’s a really popular but small cafe under the Tyne Bridge that is open daily and often has a queue outside as it’s worth the wait. They have a big coffee selection, and a lot of teas on offer.

SIX at The Baltic
This is the only place to get coffee on this list that is on the Gateshead side of the river, but it’s worth mentioning as it’s right at the top of the Baltic Mill, so the views are unbeatable.
Whichever of the coffee shops on Newcastle Quayside that you choose to visit or pick up a coffee to go from, you’ll enjoy with a view of the famous bridges.
