Dog Friendly Newcastle Restaurants & Bars

The Best Dog Friendly Pubs In Newcastle

More places than ever are welcoming dogs through their doors, and the bars of Newcastle are no exception. Whether you’re visiting for a city break or live locally, if you have a dog they don’t have to miss out on your visit to the pub. Here’s the dog friendly pubs in Newcastle that both you and your pooch can enjoy for a well poured pint.

Dog Friendly Hotels In Newcastle

If you are visiting the city, check out these dog friendly hotels where you could stay. The following dog friendly pubs in Newcastle are all within walking distance of all the hotels mentioned, and the local Metro transport system also allows dogs if you’re not staying in the centre. I’ll include a link to my metro station pub crawl (also dog friendly) at the end.

Whether you’re looking for somewhere dog friendly to have food, want a pint after a walk, or are doing a bit of a bar crawl, here’s where to go.

Dog Friendly Pubs On The Newcastle Quayside

The famous quayside is a popular place to stay, but also for dog walkers especially on the weekend as there is a big stretch of it that is traffic free, and on Sundays all of it is as the market is on.

Pitcher & Piano

Right on the Quayside by the Millenium Bridge, Newcastle’s Pitcher & Piano is dog friendly in the bar area, which is very spacious with lots of tables and more private booths, and you can just walk in. They have a lot of outside seating as well which is also perfect for a drink in the sun if the weather’s nice.

The Broad Chare

Named after the street it’s on, the Broad Chare pub is one of the best in Newcastle. Old and traditional you can see the history of the quayside on it’s walls, and with wood floors and small tables downstairs this area is dog friendly.

They do the best Sunday lunch in Newcastle in the restaurant upstairs, which you have to book and this section isn’t dog friendly, but you can get it downstairs on Sundays too as a walk in. A great pub for just a pint, or pub snacks if you’re passing. In the summer they have a beer garden in the courtyard out the back too, and this is also dog friendly.

Bridge Tavern

Another hugely popular traditional pub on the Quayside, in the unique spot of being right under the Tyne Bridge. Serving hearty British pub food and with plenty of space dogs are very welcome. The Bridge Tavern also has outside space downstairs, and a terrace upstairs.

The Red House

You can’t miss the Red House with it’s old fashioned wood beam exterior, and it’s just as old fashioned inside too. A gastro pub famous for it’s pies and pints, your pooch is very welcome here too. They have outside seating in the summer too, and right on the corner it’s a good spot for people watching.

Newcastle Quayside

Urban Garden

The Urban Garden is a pop up bar, coffee spot and street food spot on the quayside, brought by Brew Dog. It’s very dog friendly, but all outside. There are street games to keep the kids entertained, and more sheltered tables inside. Brew Dog itself is on Dean Street which isn’t far from the Quayside either.

Dog Friendly Pubs in Newcastle Centre

The centre of Newcastle has many dog friendly pubs too, especially around Grey Street, High Bridge Street, Monument and Central Station. Eldon Square indoor shopping however isn’t dog friendly, other than for assistance dogs.

City Tavern

Quite possibly one of the most dog friendly pubs in Newcastle, City Tavern welcomes all dogs and even has a dedicated canine menu that you can see here. They have four resident dogs, but you will usually only find one at any time. The staff love and make a fuss of any dog that comes in, and the decor reflects how they all feel.

For people, it’s a lovely Tudor style pub, great for a pint and some pub food. You and your dog will love it. Take a photo while you’re there and your dog could end up in their Hound Hall of Fame.

Market Shaker

Market Shaker is a chilled out bar with a big beer garden, found on the Cloth Market which is the Bigg Market area of town. Dogs are welcome in all areas, and as well as serving up drinks you can also get a slice of pizza. The beer garden is definitely the best area to be in, and it has plenty of shelter too.

Follow Market Shaker on instagram here.

Horticulture

A great, relaxed bar that’s a bit different in Newcastle, set over a few floors it’s a go to for brunch or good cocktails. They have the biggest espresso martini menu you’ve ever seen too. Dogs are welcome on the main bar floor, and the outside terrace. It’s very popular and tables fill up at the weekend so make sure you book whatever you’re going for, even if it’s just drinks.

Revolución de Cuba

On the same street as Market Shaker, Revolucion de Cuba is dog friendly, and they actually often put dog friendly events on – pet stalls, dog walks and even a doggie disco. It gets quite lively on a Friday and Saturday night and I don’t think they’re allowed at those times, but through the day and every other day dogs are welcome to join you while you have Cuban tapas and cocktails.

Reserve a table at Revs de Cuba here.

The Botanist

The Newcastle Botanist is in a great location overlooking Monument, with a bar area, a restaurant, a mezzanine and a rooftop terrace with views over the city. Dogs are welcome in the bar area, and the rooftop terrace, just not in the restaurant. If you get a table in the bar area or on the roof you can order food to it however, but these tables are walk in only.

The Town Wall

The Town Wall is an old pub with a lot of character near Central Station, on Pink Lane. The bar area inside is big and welcomes dogs, and they also have a small outside terrace where dogs can be as well. They will happily provide water bowls for your dog too. The food menu for people is great for burgers, bar bites and on Sundays a traditional roast.

The Forth

The Forth is directly opposite the Town Wall, and is another contender for the most dog friendly pub in Newcastle. It has a lot of character, with a pub feel but they also host events sometimes, and it has a great rooftop terrace. The Forth go the extra mile for your dog, with jars of free treats, water bowls and blankets if you need them.

WC Newcastle

The old public mens toilets on the Bigg Market were turned into one of the quirkiest and best bars in Newcastle, and they too welcome dogs. It’s not big, but there’s nowhere else like it and it’s well worth a visit for a drink. The staff are excellent and very friendly to both people and pooches.

Hibou Blanc

Hibou Blanc is definitely more of a classy bar than a pub, and can be found on High Bridge Street. They do have outside seating at the other side on the Bigg Market too where dogs are welcome, and they can go in the bar area as a walk in. You can’t reserve tables for the bar, but it’s pretty big and you shouldn’t struggle to get a table.

Beach Box

Beach Box isn’t in the city centre of Newcastle but it’s a very short distance away, and is another different place you might like to visit. An outdoor bar, with a variety of seating and table options, a big screen that often shows sports or events, and what they call the best selfie park you could wish to find.

They have a whole program of activities and things to do here as well as just having a drink, so take a look on their website. They welcome dogs – but I’d probably not take them on a Friday or Saturday!

Dog Friendly Hotels In Newcastle

A few other dog friendly pubs worth mentioning in Newcastle also include Lola Jeans, the winner of the best burger every year, and Dat Bar, both of which are in the centre of town. In nearby Gosforth the Brandling Villa is another very dog friendly pub with a dog menu. Further along the Quayside is the Ouseburn where every pub is dog friendly and it’s a great pub crawl. Wherever you choose to visit all of these dog friendly pubs in Newcastle are worth it for the atmosphere, their hospitality to people and dogs, and their good food and drinks.
