Dog Friendly Glamping & Lodge Stays Northumberland

East Farm Glamping At Duck Pond Cabin

East Farm Glamping offers two unique, luxury glamping options in the beautiful Northumberland countryside of Great Whittington. Both the Duck Pond Cabin and the Wildflower Shepherd Hut are found on the private land of East Farm, run by Laura and Jack, so they’re off grid, with no specific address, and offer a fabulous rural escape yet still surrounded by luxurious home comforts. I enjoyed a November stay at Duck Pond Cabin, so here’s my full review of the East Farm Glamping experience.

East Farm Glamping At Duck Pond Cabin

Despite my stay being November, the glamping experience that East Farm offers was more than enough to convince me that it didn’t need to be a summer trip when the weather might be better. Their aim that is abundantly clear across the full website is that you’re in for a luxury experience in both of their accommodations, and that they’ll have thought of everything you might need.

A glamping trip to East Farm Glamping is hugely popular, they book up well in advance and have a minimum of two night stays. I managed to bag a one night stay, as they shared their available one night options on social media, and as I had a week off I took full advantage and booked up quick.

So it’s definitely worth following their Instagram here for last minute deals, cancellations and offers, as that’s where they share anything that comes up. It’s really exciting booking up somewhere like this at the last minute, and at less than an hour’s drive from Newcastle it was ideal for me for a short trip away to kick start my week off.

Booking & Pre arrival Information for East Farm Glamping

There is so much information available on the East Farm Glamping website, and the booking process was really easy. Simply select your dates from the availability calendar to see which of the glamping options is available and go through the booking flow to secure your stay.

Having seen the available date I was targeting on their Instagram story it was really easy to do this quickly – they really do get snapped up fast! As part of the booking process you can choose add ons for your stay, including if you have a dog – both accommodations are dog friendly, and if you’d like the wood fired hot tub to be preheated before your arrival.

If you’ve ever experienced heating up a hot tub in this way before, I really recommend you go for this option, as it can take up to four hours to fully heat properly so it will save you a lot of time. To add a dog it was £15 per stay, and the pre light hot tub service was £25. If you choose to add this on later after you have already booked, you do need to give them at least 48 hours notice.

Your booking is confirmed via email, and you’ll be sent a link to their online guide book for your accommodation. This is an absolute godsend, and I love any glamping place that offers this level of information before you go so you can fully prepare.

I’ve lost count of how many places I’ve been to where I’m emailing them ahead of the visit asking for details on what is provided and what isn’t, because when you’re glamping and have limited space, you don’t want to be packing and carrying things that you just don’t need.

The East Farm Glamping online guide book for Duck Pond cabin has literally everything you could need to know ahead of your trip, including details of all of the amenities both inside and outside of the cabin, what’s in the fully equipped kitchen, what they provide for dogs, and information on the bathroom, bathrobes and toiletries.

They’ve thought of everything, and if they don’t provide certain things they have a section which tells you what you’d need to bring if you want it. It’s the little details like appropriate footwear because the access is via a field so it can get muddy, a torch if you’ll be out exploring in the dark, and personal toiletries so you don’t get caught out.

It’s a really detailed guide, and also includes directions, information on the wifi, a local area guide for what’s nearby, and emergency contact information including the nearest vets. Considering you’ll be so off grid it’s ideal to have all of this to hand, and available on your phone as you can download it.

Check in is from 3:30pm and check out is at 10:30am. You’ll be given the three word location finder, as like I said the cabin itself doesn’t have a specific address – but the directions are very good and clear. You’ll be emailed your access code for the key box just before you visit and it’s valid for the duration of your stay.

Duck Pond Cabin

The name is pretty self explanatory really, driving across the fields you’ll arrive at the back of the big container cabin, which has parking in the trees for two cars. Walking around to the front this is where you’ll first see how beautiful the set up is.

The cabin is set up quite high, and as you walk round you’ll see the big glass window that fills floor to ceiling of one end of the cabin, overlooking the patio area that has sun lounger chairs and a fire pit.

You go up the steps to the enclosed, raised decking area with the gate marked as Duck Pond Cabin, and this is where you get your first view over the duck pond. It’s an absolutely beautiful uninterrupted view over the pond and the Northumberland countryside.

The decking area is really big and spacious, it runs right along the length of the cabin and has a covered pergola lounge bed at one end, and the hot tub at the other. As Id paid for the pre light service it was smoking away from the chimney.

There are double doors that let you into the cabin itself, and an entranceway that has coat hooks and a place for shoes.

Home Comforts

The cabin itself is absolutely gorgeous, and for the time of year it was so cosy with a little log burner, a comfy sofa seating area with throws, coffee table and TV at one end.

There are little details like candles and fairy lights dotted about, and on the high dining table there was a welcome hamper. If you’re sitting on one of the stools for your morning coffee you’ve got the view straight out the doors over the fields – beautiful.

The kitchen is fully equipped with sink, kettle, microwave, hob and fridge, and there’s little bits like salt and pepper, oil etc but you do need to bring your own food, They do provide details of the nearest shops if you prefer to do a food shop once you’re there.

The bathroom is behind a sliding door with a double hot shower and towels provided. The bedroom is at the end of the cabin and has another big glass window right by it, robes hanging up and little decor details. It’s so gorgeous by far one of the nicest I’ve stayed in.

The cabin has wifi, and you can connect to Netflix through the TV. It literally has all the home comforts you could need, and on a very cold, rainy night in November it was very cosy in there. There is a heater so you don’t have to rely on just the log burner to warm the place up but I didn’t touch it as the log burner did the trick no problem.

Dog Friendly

Both East Farm Glamping accommodations are dog friendly, and the enclosed decking area for me was the best thing here. A lot of glamping places don’t have this enclosed space where you can let them off the lead and not worry that they’ll roam off, so this was great for Arthur.

The cabin had a basket full of dog essentials like bowls, a towel and a spare lead just inside the door, they just ask that you keep dogs off the furniture. I always take Arthur’s own blankets and bed everywhere we go, and he loved to lie beside the fire or looking out of the big window.

Things to do and what’s nearby?

Because our stay was just for the one night, we stayed at the cabin for the full stay, we switched off, relaxed, and enjoyed all that it had to offer.

Even in the rain the hot tub was great, and the following morning when it was much brighter we had time to go for a short walk and enjoy breakfast with a view.

There are games provided as well as netflix as I previously mentioned, but it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a good book too.

Nearby there are plenty of Northumberland places to visit and things to do if you were staying longer, or that you could do before you check in/after check out. We went for a walk around Bolam Lake which wasn’t far, and passed Belsay Hall Castle & Gardens.

Great Whittington and Matfen are the closest villages both with shops and pubs, Matfen Hall has the option of activities like spa experiences and Go Ape, and Corbridge and Hexham are close by too – both offering good choices for days out.

Overall I couldn’t fault our stay at East Farm Glamping Duck Pond Cabin, I wanted to stay much longer but it was great getting such a good last minute one night deal. I’m hoping to do a 2 night stay at their shepherd hut this year if I can get booked in.

All the information on hand before made it such an easy trip, and Laura was in touch when we arrived so they are on hand if you need them for anything.

The cabin itself was just gorgeous, an ideal base to enjoy off grid glamping but with everything you need, including a fair few luxuries too. Definitely my kind of glamping.
