Geisha Sushi – New On The Menu

You may remember last summer I shared this post following my first visit to Geisha in Sandyford, and if you read it you’ll see that I absolutely loved it, but the only thing that I felt was missing from the menu was sushi. Fast forward to the recent spring menu update and they have put Geisha sushi on the menu. They invited me along to try it so I went last week with a couple of the girls.

Disclaimer: We were provided with a voucher contribution towards our meal, we had the table booked anyway before we were asked!

Geisha is one of the places I find myself recommending to people looking for a place to go for girls night. It’s got everything you need, great cocktails and plenty of them, really good food both to share or have individually, and an atmosphere that’s perfect for a good catch up getting progressively louder as the night goes on.

Sushi is perfect for group of you, to mix and match, share different ones, and it works either as a starter or mains. From what I could tell it looked to have replaced the section on the menu that was previously for burgers and hot dogs. A good decision I think as the grill, the bao, the noodle and the salt and pepper sections were all still there.

The Geisha sushi hasn’t been done just to tick the box, they’ve clearly taken their time to get the menu right. There’s a really big choice of all variations including maki, sashimi, nigiri, tataki and chefs platters, and the menu clearly states which options can be vegan or gluten free.

We decided to get a few different ones to share as starters, as we all have different tastes with some liking everything including raw sashimi, and some preferring cooked fish. The menu has a broad mix of both.

We got the summer maki which just sounded fabulous, your choice of fish with mango and avocado, and topped with kiwi and summer sauce. We got the salmon but you could have also got prawn or strawberry. Then we got two wasabi prawn maki, a crab maki, and a tuna sashimi.

I could have easily also ordered the Ocean maki and the wagyu maki as well, which I would have done if we were having sushi for main. I’d have got some salmon maki and tuna tataki too. If you know your sushi and like to be adventurous some of these variations include scallops, oyster, eel and octopus too – but I know that’s not for everyone.

The Geisha sushi came beautifully presented on the platters, with accompanying sauce and little flowers. But of course it’s all about the taste, which is the most important thing, and it was so fresh and well done. Some of the flavours were different to what you usually get on sushi menus, especially the summer maki which was my favourite.

One of the girls had never tried sashimi before, which I think is the type of sushi a lot of people aren’t keen on, cuts of raw fish. She gave it a go and was really pleasantly surprised, so don’t be scared to try it – her exact words were that it didn’t taste fishy at all. Dipped in soy sauce I think it’s delicious.

It made the perfect starter course for with our cocktails, before we moved on to a bottle of wine for with our mains. If you’re interested in those, our order was a salt and chilli prawns, the mushroom bao’s, and salt and chilli chicken. All the food was great, as were the cocktails!

There’s more info on the wider menu and the whole experience of Geisha in my original blog, but I really just wanted to share my thoughts on the new Geisha sushi addition. A great one in my opinion, and I’d definitely order it again.
