Whether you’re packing for your first-ever festival, or your fiftieth one, you might find it a struggle to settle on a wardrobe that’s appropriate for the occasion. Fashion is always changing, and the weather in the UK always has the potential to take you by surprise. So, what should festivalgoers be thinking about?

Comfort is Key 

At a festival, you’re going to be spending a long time in the same outfit. You might find yourself dancing, drinking, or getting soaked – and if you’re wearing clothes that can cope with all of this, then you’ll stand a better chance of enjoying yourself.

That generally means breathable fabrics that will dry out quickly. You can always layer a jacket if you think that it’s going to get cold in the evening. Make sure that you have a decent pair of wellies, too – especially if rain is forecast.

Express Yourself

Of course, part of the fun of a festival is that it provides an opportunity for self-expression. You can get away with things in this setting that you might otherwise avoid – so, here’s an opportunity to be bold. Look at statement items like eye-catching hats and chunky sunglasses.

You might adapt your wardrobe according to the festival. A dress might work at one festival, while shorts and a T-shirt might be more appropriate at another. If it’s a mainstream festival, then floral patterns might work nicely; if it’s an extreme metal festival, then going for various shades of black, and a few occult symbols, might be more appropriate.

Standing apart often means considering items that wouldn’t ordinarily be considered festival-appropriate. Evening dresses, if they’re made from the right fabrics, can work well. You’ll just need to work out an appropriate time to head back to the tent and change.

If you want to push things further, then you might look at some temporary decoration. Theatrical makeup and glitter can provide a touch of magic that might make the occasion feel remarkable.

Functionality Meets Fun

You’re obviously here to have fun. But you’ll also need to be able to transport your stuff securely across the site. Invest in a crossbody bag, and keep your essentials in here. Keep an old phone to hand so that you can get in touch with friends without being tempted to stare at a screen throughout the festival. You might take a disposable camera for the same reason.

Among the most important items of luggage you’ll be taking, assuming you’re staying overnight, is your tent. Make sure that you know how to pitch it, and that there are no missing components. After all, you don’t want to learn about these problems for the first time after you’ve arrived at the site.
