My Picks For NE1 Restaurant Week January 2024
NE1 Restaurant Week is returning for the annual January edition later this month, from 15th – 21st. It’s a great way to try new restaurants without spending a fortune, going to favourites at a bargain price or just a good excuse to have something to look forward to during the longest month of the year. It’s also a great way to support your favourite restaurants during the quieter period after Christmas. I love browsing through the restaurants taking part and their menus, before choosing a few to book, and as always there are a few new additions. Here’s my top picks for NE1 Restaurant week for January 2024.
In the past when I’ve shared blogs on Newcastle restaurant week I’ve gone through each restaurant, but nowadays I have my favourites, and I’m not going to sway from them – with a few exceptions as new places have opened that I want to try.
So like I always share, these are just my top picks of Newcastle restaurants taking part in NE1 Restaurant Week 2024. They’re in no particular order, and include a mix of old favourites, new places and ones I want to try. Remember to book sharpish as places book up so fast!
St Vincent
I think the food at St Vincent is amazing since they reopened last year so if you’ve not been yet have a look at their restaurant week menu. The winter minestrone sounds lovely to start and although I’d probably go for the beef main, I also think the cod will be lovely based on the fish I had last time I was there – you can read my full review here.
Staff are brilliant at helping you pair wines to go with your food too so if you aren’t doing dry January then don’t be afraid to ask. The offer is 2 courses for £20 or 3 for £25.

Pleased To Meet You
This is where we went for our girls Christmas night out and the food was lovely. I tried a lot of their winter menu dishes during December and I’m pleased to see they’ve made the restaurant week menu. There’s 5 choices for each course which is a really good selection compared to some other places. The tiger prawn risotto sounds amazing!
Get 2 courses for £20 or 3 for £25 and see the full menu here.
Gaucho
I love Gaucho I thought it was a great addition to Newcastle last year. For restaurant week the offer is 3 courses for £25. I’ll be honest and say I think the 2 starters available are limited, but the offer is worth it for me for how good the steak always is.
There are two steak choices as well as the classic burger. I’ve enjoyed the desserts here too so could overlook the starters and it wouldn’t put me off going.
See the full Gaucho restaurant week menu here.
Ginos
I am a big Gino’s fan mainly because the normal menu is so big, and the food is always great quality. Being honest the restaurant week menu is smaller than I expected but the food is always great. The offer is different at lunch and evenings with 2 courses for £15 and 3 for £20 available over lunch from 2-4pm, and then going up to 2 courses for £20 and 3 for £25 from 5-10pm.
I did two wine tastings with Gino’s last year, so again if you’re looking to drink then speak to the staff as they’re very knowledgeable. The bar is great area too for a pre or after dinner drink.
Find the Gino’s restaurant week menu and offer here. I spotted the arancini and the bruschetta is on the starters – both amazing!
I Scream For Pizza
I love this place, the pizza is just so good. Their small place on the quayside is the one taking part in restaurant week, not the bigger restaurant in Sandyford. I’ve included them in my restaurant week picks since they started joining as I think they’re a great casual option. The offer is a 14″ pizza, dip and screamie for £15, and then a couple of other choices for either £20 or £25.
See the details here.
Cote
I’ve never had a bad meal at Cote and I think they’re a good one to do for restaurant week. I’ve done their brunch before and it’s lovely, and for a change you can do this as part of their restaurant week offer this time.
Enjoy a cooked breakfast and bubbles for £15. If you prefer an evening meal then the offer is four courses and a drink for £25. Starters include four choices, I’d go for either the salmon fish cake or the charcuterie board. For main the seabass or chicken sound nice.
Find the Cote Restaurant week menu here.
Kaltur
One of my favourite tapas place in Newcastle, the food at Kaltur is just so good, and as close to being in Mallorca as I’ve had. It’s easy to get carried away with the tapas selection, and it’s really filling. Think this will be a popular one and the venues are quite small so book quick if you fancy it. They have some lovely wines on offer too if you ask the waiters for recommendations.
This was my choice last restaurant week and I do really love is the food it is fabulous, but it is also one of the more expensive ones. It’s 3 tapas for £25. There is a good selection to choose from though and it is always delicious.

Cafe Andaluz
I always enjoy the food here and it’s a great location in the centre of the city. I’m also a big fan of their sangria and the bar area. A good one for a group night out and don’t let the fact that it is a chain put you off.
The offer is three tapas for £15 at lunch or 3 tapas and a dessert for £20 at dinner, and the list to choose from is pretty big. Find the Cafe Andaluz restaurant week menu and offer here.
Hibou Blanc
Hibou Blanc is a fabulous choice for winter food, and therefore an ideal January restaurant week venue. I’ve ate here a few times and the food is excellent, as is the service. The smoked mackerel starter would be my choice followed by steak but there are party other choices and some delicious sounding desserts. It’s a good place to make a night of it with drinks in their fabulous bar before or after. The French martinis are very good!
The January Restaurant week menu at Hibou Blanc is available Wed-Sat and its 2 courses for £20.
Khai Khai
Everyone’s go to as it’s so popular and always books up well in advance, Khai Khai are again joining restaurant week with their much sought out menu. For a small plate or smoke dish and a heritage plate it’s just £25.
Find the Khai Khai restaurant week menu and offer here.
Sushi Me Rollin’
The sushi here is amazing but I do think normally it’s on the expensive side so Restaurant week is a great time to get an offer. The venue is fairly small and I imagine it will be busy as there is often a queue on a normal night anyway.
Enjoy a choice of 2 sushi platters for £25. Considering now much you get and how fresh and delicious the sushi is, this is a bargain.
See the full details of the offer here.
21
Often voted as Newcastle’s best restaurant, 21 is an excellent restaurant and this time round the offer covers the evening as well as lunchtimes. The menu sounds delicious, and would be a great choice for an occasion at a more affordable price if you can get booked in. It’s 2 courses for £20 or 3 courses for £25.
The smoked salmon starter sounds amazing and for main either the fillet of hake or the beef medallions sound good. My mum and dad went on New Years Eve and said it was exceptional.
The offer available Monday to Saturday through restaurant week – see the menu here.
Manhatta
Very recently opened, I enjoyed Manhatta for drinks over Christmas and it’s new to restaurant week this January. It’s one of those places I’d probably try during restaurant week when its cheaper especially as it’s so new. The menu is a bit different and there’s plenty choice.
Get 2 courses for £15 or 3 for £20, take a look at the full menu here.
Blackfriars
Blackfriars is great place for hearty winter food so perfect for January restaurant week. I would struggle to choose between all of the starters and at least four of the mains. What a great menu especially if you like meat dishes and it’s a lovely venue too.
3 courses at lunch for £25 or 2 courses at dinner for £25, I think this is really good value – full details here.
Lui’s
My friends and I went here for the August restaurant week to give it a try and we were pleasantly surprised. The food and cocktails were good and the service was excellent. There’s a big choice of different dishes so something for everyone, and it’s one course for £15, 2 for £20 or 3 for £25.
See the Lui’s menu here.
Twenty Twenty
Another brilliant pizza spot and one I cant leave out of my picks for Januar is Twenty Twenty, simply because I’ve been here so many times over the past year it must be good. They usually serve up huge pizzas in all sorts of favours, but for restaurant week they’re dong 3 tasting plates for £15. I think this is actually a great way to try a few different flavours and dishes they offer.
See the Twenty Twenty menu here.
So many other great Newcastle restaurants are taking part in NE1 Restaurant week again so make sure you check out the full list before deciding. Those are my picks this time based on the time of year, where I’ve been and enjoyed, what I think are good value offers and new places to try. You can find all restaurants taking part and their menus here. They book up so quick so don’t wait if there’s one you like the look of. It’s also worth keeping an eye on any restaurant you like that isn’t taking part, as they often do their own offers during the same week anyway.
