Dog Friendly Northumberland

Newgate Loft Apartment Stay, Morpeth Northumberland

A few weeks ago I stayed at Newgate Loft Apartment in Morpeth, Northumberland, a luxury Air BnB on Newgate Street. There are a number of apartments within the building which have all been done out beautifully, and Newgate Loft is on the second floor. It sleeps 2 adults, and is dog friendly, providing an ideal base in Morpeth for events, occasions, to enjoy this lovely town, or to explore wider Northumberland.

Newgate Loft is available to book via a number of websites, but I found that direct on Air Bnb was the cheapest. After the booking and ahead of the stay you are sent all the instructions for arrival, which was from 4pm, as well as directions to the private parking at the rear of the building.

Check In at Newgate Loft, Morpeth

Once parked up in the designated parking spot, you go through the gate and you’re in a private courtyard that belongs to the building. Guests of all apartments can use it, there’s a table and chairs and a dog bowl.

There are key locks on the wall as it’s a self check in process and you’ll have been sent the code via email. There’s a few flights of stairs up to the second floor, so be aware of this as there’s no lift. You can see the views over Morpeth as you go up the stairs out the window, and you’ll also pass Oldgate Loft which is another of the apartments available to rent.

From the moment you walk into the apartment you’ll be blown away, it’s absolutely gorgeous, with unique features that make it unlike anywhere else I’ve stayed. The entranceway and kitchen area is all tiled, with a big exposed brick feature wall, and big windows that let loads of light in overlooking Morpeth.

The kitchen has loads of counter space, and all the features and appliances, cooking equipment and cutlery you could possibly need for a self catered stay. Morpeth has some great dining out options, but if you did want to stay in you won’t be short of anything.

Overhead is the gallery loft bedroom, but before we head up there you walk into the living area. The opposite side of the kitchen counter on the far side has barstool seating, so it’s great for socialising with the kitchen, or as a workspace. There are plugs everywhere you could need them for laptops and chargers.

The living area has big comfy sofas, feature coffee table, a TV set up with Netflix and all other streaming services, and again the exposed brick, feature fireplace filled with logs, and the big windows overlooking Morpeth in the other direction just make it absolutely gorgeous. It’s so homely, with plenty of space.

The stairs lead up to the gallery bedroom which again is very unique, with a seating area, a TV, feature clothes storage space, and a big double bed built in. The huge mirror on the wall has a barstool in front of it – an ideal dressing area. The ensuite bathroom is just off the bedroom, with a shower.

The whole apartment is a total mix of rustic luxury, keeping some of the original Grade II listed features which are what make it so unique, with a modern touch and everything you’d need. The ceilings are so high with skylight windows, but don’t worry there’s blackout blinds for a very comfortable night sleep.

Dog Friendly

It has everything you could need for a couple stay and it’s dog friendly. You would need to take your own dog bed but bowls are provided under the sink, and I also spotted one in the private courtyard outside. They could encounter other dogs staying in the building so just be aware of that.

What’s Nearby Newgate Loft, Morpeth?

Being right in the centre of Morpeth it’s an ideal base to explore the town, with the two main streets offering plenty of cafe, restaurant and bar choices. The Vault is just metres away, as is Harry’s coffee. A very short walk further down the street and you’ll find Pleased to Meet You, Lollo Rosso, and a number of pubs.

Marketplace cafe was ideal for breakfast, they’re dog friendly and also double up as a sustainable refill store. The food here was excellent I really enjoyed it but it did get quite busy later on in the morning.

I got a takeaway Chinese from Fortune Cookies, the Chinese van in the car park at Morpeth leisure, centre – it’s one of my favourite Chinese takeaways in the North East. Restaurants like the Townhouse, Novo and Mulan’s are also close by for a proper dining experience.

The town is great to wander around, I love some of the independent shops, and of course the Sanderson Arcade. The river walk is also ideal to take the dog for a walk, so there’s plenty to keep you entertained if you don’t want to leave the town.

From Newgate Loft you could also venture on days out to places like Wallington Hall, or Northumberland Zoo nearby, the town of Felton, and onwards to other Northumberland towns like Warkworth, Alnwick, and explore the famous coastline.

Lastly, as I know plenty of people who have needed accommodation to attend weddings up that way, a stay at Newgate Loft would be perfect for that as it has literally everything you could want and plenty of space to get ready.

Book via Air Bnb

You can book your stay at Newgate Loft via Air Bnb, the owner is a superhost and I had no issues or problems whatsoever. They communicated all the check in, directions and arrival information so it was easy to find and get in, and are on hand if you need anything during your stay. I couldn’t fault our stay here.
