Pick Your Own Christmas Tree In The North East
With Christmas light switch ons and Christmas markets popping up everywhere it won’t be long until we are all getting the tree up, and for those who go for real trees – inside, outside or both, many North East places are opening from this Friday, for you to go and pick your own Christmas tree. Here’s some of the most popular ones including opening times and extra details.
I’ve included a variety in different areas, and each one offers something different. Some are pre cut, others you can cut yourself. There’s extras such as mulled wine for adults, or festive trails for kids in some, even somewhere offering a food voucher for a nearby venue.
So when it comes to choosing where to pick your own Christmas tree across the North East this year, you might find one that offers more of a day out even if it isn’t the closest to you.
Last year when I worked at my old job I went with my good friend Georgia to pick the office tree and we had so much fun. All photos in this post are from that day, but where I can Ive linked to all of these pick your own Christmas tree spots websites and Instagram accounts.
If you don’t pick your own Christmas tree at home and you work somewhere that does, definitely volunteer to get involved. Why not make an afternoon of it, t’is the season.
Northern Christmas Trees
Im starting with Northern because this is where I went with Georgia last year, and we had the most fun festive time. They’re at McCracken Park which is within Northern Rugby Club on Great North Road in Gosforth. You might know them for the giant inflatable santa they have stood overlooking the road.
They open from Saturday 18th November and will be open daily, from 7am – 11pm, with an absolutely huge range of trees. Choose from all makes and sizes from pot grown to Nordmann Fir, Fraser Fir, Norway Spruce and many more, sourced from across the country including Lamesley, Northumberland, West Scotland, Devon, and beyond like Denmark and Holland.
As well as choosing your tree you can enjoy refreshments like mulled wine, hot chocolate and mince pies. They promote themselves as being a day out, encouraging families to go just to enjoy the atmosphere and a walk around the trees. It was very festive last year.
They price trees by size and you can get more information on their website here.
East Grange Farm Pick Your Own Christmas Tree
East Grange are just south of Durham and you might know them for their summer sunflower trail. For Christmas trees they’re open for business from Saturday 25th November, with daily opening hours of 10-6pm except Sundays when they close at 5pm.
They have the popular Nordmann Fir cut Christmas trees, and they get a new supply cut and delivered each week you know that they’re fresh. They also sell tree stands, tree skirts, wreaths and lots of decorations too.
They offer some delivery but it depends on location. Their website is really good so for more information and FAQs take a look here.
Lamesley Farm Pick Your Own
Lamesley Farm say they’re the only Christmas tree farm in Newcastle where you can pick your own that they’ll then cut down for you, they aren’t pre cut. A family run business they want you to go along and enjoy the landscape while you’re there to choose your Christmas tree.
Choose from one of two varieties, the Nordmann Fir or the Norway Spruce. Once cut you can either take it home yourself or they can arrange delivery for you.
They’re open from Saturday November 25th – 17th December, from 9am – 3:30pm.
Visit their website here.
Durham Christmas Trees
Durham Christmas Trees at Heugh Hall Farm look a really good one, not only can you pick ans cut your own if you want to, there’s also a festive trail around the field for kids to enjoy. As well as the freshly cut Nordmann Firs between 5-11ft you can also get pot grown trees, and prices start at £25.
You can take your freshly cut tree home yourself or choose delivery. Their website is really good and details their sustainable approach to trees as well as the history of their family business, and tips for tree care, tree disposal, and a price guide.
What is even better is you can also book a set time to go here. Take a look on the Durham Christmas Trees website here.
Broomhall Christmas Trees
Broomhall Christmas trees are on the outskirts of Newcastle, and they offer a range of trees including Nordmann Fir, Fraser Fir and Norway Spruce in all sizes. They open on Saturday 25th November and will be open 8am-6:30pm.
They also offer stands but if you have one you can take it along and they’ll make sure your tree fits. Delivery is available within a 10 mile radius for £5 and will be same or next day delivery.
They have a really detailed price list on their website, and their Facebook page has some handy tips including how to dispose of your real tree post Christmas.
Edelweiss Christmas Trees
Edelweiss Christmas trees are based in Seaton Delaval and they’re opening Friday 24th November. They’ll be open daily from 10am-6pm and offer collection and delivery.
Their trees include Lodgepole Pine, Nordmann Fir and Norway Spruce. As well as cut trees you can get potted trees if you prefer something smaller, and extras like stands and wreaths are also available.
A perk of buying your tree from Edelweiss Christmas Trees is that you’ll get a food voucher for Seaton Deleval Secret Garden, where if you’re buying a burger or pizza you’ll get one half price with every tree.

Meldon Park Christmas Trees
Meldon Park Christmas Trees are based in Morpeth, and the cut your own trees are Norway Spruce. There are pre cut Nordmann Firs available too( and pot grown Norway Spruce.
Their price list can be found on their website, but note for here they say they’re likely to sell out.
