A Stay at Stang Hideaway Cabin, Hillcrest Park in Teesdale
Stang Hideaway is one of two cabins at Hillcrest Park, part of Meridian Parks, and is the dog friendly of the two cabins on offer. Over summer Arthur and I enjoyed a stay there to try it out. Hillcrest Park is between Richmond and Barnard Castle, so a great spot for exploring North Yorkshire, Teesdale and the North Pennines AONB. The park itself already has caravan pitches, and they’re currently working on a new section of luxury lodges, but the two cabins offer a unique stay more along the lines of luxury glamping.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary one night stay at Stang Hideaway in exchange for social media coverage.
Stang Hideaway offers a combination of the glamping charm that people look for in these types of staycations, and modern luxury, almost like a standalone hotel room with the added benefit of a small kitchen area. With staycations and glamping holidays more popular than ever, I think places need to offer something a bit different. Stang Hideaway did that in a number of ways.
The cabin is designed to provide everything you need for a relaxing but secluded stay, it sleeps two and is perfect for a couples getaway or a solo escape with your dog. Here’s what you can expect from your stay and the cabin.
Stang Hideaway Cabin
The main cabin space has a huge comfortable bed, small dresser and TV on the wall at one end, and the kitchen space, living area at the other. It’s really spacious with everything you’d need.
The en suite bathroom was a standout feature, mainly because as well as the big modern shower it also had a beautiful bathtub, a rare find in glamping stays. There were two sinks, toiletries and fluffy towels provided, all adding an extra layer of comfort to the experience.
The kitchen is well-equipped with many of the essentials you’d need for your stay, though it doesn’t have an oven so keep this in mind if you’re meal planning. You’ll find plenty of cooking utensils, a microwave, and other necessities, making it easy to prepare meals if you choose to eat in.
Alternatively, you can order food from local businesses, suggestions provided in the welcome book. Personally I think it’s nice to eat out at a good pub if you’re enjoying this type of stay.
For anyone like me who prefers to stay connected even when you are enjoying the glamping and outdoors experience, the cabin does have Wi-Fi and a Smart TV equipped with Netflix, Prime Video, and other streaming services. Perfect for watching something in bed in the Autumn months if the weather isn’t great,or if you work remotely.
The cabin has double doors that lead to the outdoor deck, which looks out across stunning views of the Teesdale countryside, complete with a seating area and a fire pit. While the weather during my stay was too windy to fully enjoy it, it would be the perfect spot to relax with a glass of wine and take in the landscape. I did a morning pilates session and the view really did make it seem that bit more enjoyable!
Stang Hideaway also had a lookout point in the huge tree next to it that has been custom built and is pretty high. But again during my stay it was too windy which was a shame, but another unique feature to the cabin. There’s an allocated parking space for guests, making it easy to load and unload your car without hassle.
One of the best parts about Stang Hideaway and any glamping adventure in the UK is being able to take Arthur with me. Stang Hideaway is fully dog-friendly, and there was plenty of space for walks and exploring. The other cabin on-site isn’t dog-friendly, but it does come with the added perk of a hot tub for those who don’t have pets.
The park doesn’t have any other facilities which is something I’m often asked, there is no fitness centre, cafe, pub or restaurant so keep this in mind.
Things To Do Near Stang Hideaway
Being located in Teesdale, you’re in a great spot to explore a number of nearby regions, as well as Teasdale itself. Pay a visit to the quaint town of Barnard Castle, visit Raby Castle which is a brilliant day out – deer park, the castle itself, the new Rising development with lifestyle shop and restaurant.
You could also venture to North Yorkshire, including the town of Richmond with a nice river walk, or head to Middleton Lodge for a fabulous Sunday dinner. Lastly the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) could be your preference if you want some scenic walks.
Whether you’re into hiking, visiting local markets, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside, Hillcrest Park’s location makes it easy to plan your adventures.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Stang Hideaway. It’s a beautifully designed, luxurious cabin that offers all the comforts of home with a few indulgent extras. It’s an ideal choice if you’re looking for a glamping experience that offers more than just basic amenities, and the fact that it’s dog-friendly makes it all the more appealing for those of us who like to bring our pets along on our adventures especially for a trip like this.
