A Luxury Weekend Stay at The Apartment, Bamburgh
If you’re looking for a stylish and spacious base in the heart of one of Northumberland’s most picturesque villages, The Apartment, Bamburgh is a very good option. This luxury self-catering accommodation located above The Middle Inn, offers everything you need for a comfortable and memorable stay. I recently spent the weekend there with three friends and Arthur for a chilled out January break, and having stayed in Bamburgh many times before, I can honestly say I’ve never been anywhere this convenient.
Here’s a detailed look at our stay, including an overview of the apartment itself, the pretty unbeatable location, nearby highlights, and how you can save on your booking if you’re interested in a stay there.

The Apartment, Bamburgh
The Apartment takes up the entire floor above The Middle Inn, in the center of Bamburgh, with free parking right outside. It’s been recently renovated with a beautiful design, and very thoughtfully equipped with things you might not even think you need. It’s the perfect place for a group getaway, family break, or even a couples’ retreat.
To check in you collect the keys from the pub downstairs, and the entrance to the apartment is right inside the front door. There are lots of coat hooks downstairs, and then you head up into the main apartment. The first thing to notice is just how spacious it is. There’s a big landing with shoe rack, storage and key cupboard, a big window with window seat and a huge dog bed and blanket provided.
The kitchen is down a couple of steps and is a great size, complete with window seat, and dining table that seats four. There’s a big Smeg fridge, cooker, microwave, plenty counter space and a lovely touch with a local welcome basket. The cupboards were filled with honestly everything you could need, from the usual cutlery and cooking utensils, to breakfast trays, kids cups and plates, every detail was covered.
Close to the kitchen there is also a small utility room with washer, iron and ironing board, and picnic basket – ideal for those summer days on Bamburgh beach. There was so much storage space it was great to put all the extra bags and general stuff in that we wanted out of the way.
The living room was equally as spacious and also had a dining area to seat four. There was a big corner sofa, comfortable chair, and a window seat overlooking the village. There was so much space to really sprawl out and get comfortable. The big TV has Netflix, we enjoyed some girly films especially on our second night, music through the speaker radio, and board games are also provided in the cupboard – Jenga got competitive!
The bedrooms, especially the master, are very impressive. The master bedroom is beautifully decorated, with a very comfortable king-size bed, a TV and seating, two window seats, bedside tables, a dressing table, a walk-in dressing and wardrobe area, and an en suite with dreamy heated floors and a big shower. That far North in January the heated floor was incredible!
The second bedroom can be made up as a twin or a double depending on your preference, and it also has a dressing table, wardrobe, TV and plenty of room. This one doesn’t have an en-suite but it is right next to the main bathroom, which has a shower over a big bath.
Again there were plenty of thoughtful touches, with robes, two towels per person, and slippers provided for us all. I think it’s things like that truly sets The Apartment apart, the attention to detail with little things you can really enjoy. From golf umbrellas and picnic baskets to accommodate the full range of Northumberland’s unpredictable weather, to Netflix, board games and inspiration for nearby activities, every little touch made our stay more enjoyable.
Lastly, the dog friendly touches. I really appreciated how welcoming The Apartment was for Arthur. A dog bed and big bowls were provided, and the layout gave us plenty of space to relax without feeling cramped. He had a weekend in the lap of luxury too!
Right in the Heart of Bamburgh
The Apartment has an unbeatable location, and we loved being right above the pub. A few people asked on Facebook if it meant it was noisy and honestly it really wasn’t. It was pretty quiet being January but the locals were in on the Saturday night and they didn’t bother us at all.
We joined them on both nights of our stay for a few drinks, and some of the bar bites by the fire. It was great not needing to even leave the building and it was a really wholesome pub with the fires roaring. The staff are lovely and the pub is also dog friendly. In the summer they have the huge beer garden out the back too, so I can’t really see it ever being an issue.
Dining and Drinking
Having been to Bamburgh many times, I’d booked some of my favourite places for us to dine over the weekend. One of my friends asked how long it would take us to walk there and the answer to both was 1 minute! Just a short walk from the apartment, you’ll find some of Bamburgh if not even Northumberland’s best food spots:
• The Potted Lobster: Known for its incredible seafood dishes and we had a fabulous lunch here with all of us enjoying starters and mains with a bottle of wine. It was amazing, I’ve previously done a review here.
• The Lord Crewe: A cosy pub with great food and drinks, we went here for their famous prawn cocktail starter, followed by a beautiful Sunday roast.
• There are also the local tea rooms nearby including the Copper Kettle, and a butcher’s shop, perfect for picking up supplies for a home-cooked meal.
• Seahouses is just a short drive, or a coastal walk away where you can pick up some of the best fish and chips, or fresh fish and seafood to make back at the apartment.
• Beadnell is also not too far away and here I’d recommend the Landing at Beadnell Bay for breakfast, cake and coffee. Also Beadnell Towers for an evening meal, and Craster Arms for its brilliant beer garden in summer.
I’ve previously shared some of my favourite Northumberland coastal food spots here, and I think all of them are on the list so you won’t be short of great places to go.
Bamburgh Castle and Beach
Bamburgh’s iconic castle is just a few minutes’ walk from the apartment, and its dramatic silhouette against the sky never fails to impress. It’s right at the end of the street so if you wanted to visit it’s very handy. Dogs are allowed in the grounds but not in the castle itself.
We spent both our mornings walking along the huge sandy beach for sunrise, which was stunning even in January. Arthur loved it, too – it’s a haven for dogs being dog friendly all year round. We even spotted some horses out for a trot too which was lovely.
Exploring the Area
There are many more things you can get up to using The Apartment, Bamburgh as your base. Have a look at my blog post on ‘Things to do in Bamburgh’ for inspiration, but as a quick snapshot of other places you could venture too why not visit:
• Seahouses: A charming fishing village just a short drive away with some brilliant pubs and chippys
• Holy Island/Lindisfarne: Accessible via a tidal causeway and has a very rich history, as well as a great spot for coffee – Pilgrim’s
• The Farne Islands: A must-visit for wildlife enthusiasts, especially during puffin season. I’ve still never done it as the tide has always been too rough but it’s on my bucket list.
Why We Loved Our Stay At The Apartment, Bamburgh
Our weekend at The Apartment, Bamburgh was everything we could have hoped for and after the excitement of Christmas and New Year it was so nice to have something to look forward to. It was a no pressure, very chilled out weekend away for us, we took matching pyjamas and a lot of wine, cheese and snacks.
The main takeaways I’d say are:
• Convenient: Free parking right outside made unpacking and day trips hassle-free, as well as the close proximity to everything in Bamburgh. You could park up and never need to use the car if you wanted!
• Comfortable: The thoughtful extras, how well equipped and spacious layout made it easy to relax and unwind. The pub just downstairs was very handy too.
• Beautiful: From the stylish décor to the unbeatable views, it was a treat to stay somewhere so lovely. If you want to see more then have a look at my instagram reel of the apartment here.
