Valentine’s Day Takeaways & Treats In Newcastle
As always our fabulous North East restaurants, cafes and businesses have come up trumps for Valentine’s Day, despite most of them being closed for anything other than takeaway. I’ve already said I think this year it shouldn’t necessarily be focused on couples, but more so anyone at all that you love and who may need a pick me up (don’t we all?!). So although some of these things are very much to enjoy within your household, some of them could be sent to a friend or family member too. Like New Year’s Eve was, I think it should be a no pressure affair, but if you do want to order Valentine’s Day takeaways, buy a gift or just indulge in some treats here’s what’s on offer for Valentine’s Day in Newcastle.
Disclaimer: I have previously worked with some of these places but not for the purposes of this blog.
Good Tempered Chocolate Co. Heart Slabs
I featured these guys in my local businesses to support this lockdown, and since then I’ve had the pleasure of trying some of their chocolate slabs. Honestly they made my week last week they taste so good. They aren’t sickly at all I had to exercise some serious restraint to stop myself from eating them all in one go. Instead I’ve made them last and it’s like a little treat with every cuppa. These are their strawberry heart chocolate slabs, and I’d suggest treating yourself even if you don’t want to treat anyone else. Happy Valentine’s to you!
Graze & Gorge Valentine’s Day Platters
The place to go for platters, Graze & Gorge have a number of Valentine’s specials for you to order, including the ‘Just the Two of Us’ platter featured below for £45, but they also have a ‘Brie Mine’ (they’re running a giveaway today only if you head to their instagram for one of these), and a BreakFEAST in bed platter to share with your other half. I think these would also make a great gift.
Jesmond Dene House Valentine’s afternoon tea
Now sold out!
A romantic take on their traditional takeaway afternoon tea, which I’ve enjoyed on a couple of occasions now. They’re really popular and with good reason, but I saw today they’ve added extra collection slots from 11th – 14th February. Earlier this month my sister and I did a virtual afternoon tea with our mum as well so this is a good one to do with the girls or over a family FaceTime.
Great British Cupcakery Valentine’s Day Collection
The queens of cakes, cupcakes and brownies, The Great British Cupcakery have updated their online store with all sorts of Valentine’s treats, that they deliver to your door. How amazing is the giant brownie heart? You can shop the full Valentine’s Collection here, and prices start from as little as £4.50. Another good one to send out to people who could do with a treat – who wouldn’t love a Valentine’s delivery that looks this delicious?
Heavenly Bites Valentine’s Boxes
A box of chocolate covered strawberries, or heart cakes are available from Heavenly Bites. They have sold out for slots on 13th February but do still have availability for the 12th and 14th February so pre order asap if you fancy these.
So that’s some of the sweeter options, but there’s plenty more Valentine’s Day experiences to be had from other places in Newcastle, starting with some set meal takeaways…
Kaltur Valentine’s Menu
Kaltur at home are offering a Valentine’s Day menu for 2, available from 12th – 14th February. You can see the full special menu below but they are also offering their normal menu which would also make a lovely takeaway. I find the Kaltur food so good, so you won’t be disappointed by it.
Horticulture At Home Valentine’s Boxes
So Horticulture haven’t yet announced the details of their at home Valentine’s boxes, but it looks from their instagram like they will be doing so soon. I will update details here when they do, but for now if a specific Valentine’s deal isn’t for you then they have also launched their weekend brunch boxes this week too, which would make for a lovely start to Valentine’s weekend.
I love their brunches, so I’ll hopefully be ordering one at some point even if it’s not Valentine’s weekend. Just a tip Asda are currently selling pink plates just like Horticulture’s for £1.50 so you can be even closer to the real experience.
Keep an eye on their instagram for the Valentine’s boxes.
21 at Home Valentine’s Menu
The 21 Group have been offering meals at home ever since the first lockdown, I really enjoyed their afternoon tea last summer, but for Valentine’s Day they have a set menu with plenty of courses including seared tuna, duck breast and love hearts. Always incredible food I’m sure it will be worth the £55 price tag.
Find the menu to order here for collection on 13th February only.
Blackfriars Valentine’s Weekend
I really enjoyed our Blackfriars at Home meal last year, it was really easy to follow the instructions to heat up the freshly prepared food, and it tasted so good. I think some people could worry about getting value for money for places like this but it was delicious. Blackfriars are offering two set menus for Valentines weekend, both the same food wise but one also includes a bottle of Prosecco and Valentine’s cocktails. They are £55 per person or £70 per person depending which one you get.
Shop the Blackfriars Valentine’s menu here.
Sushi Me Rollin & It’s R Place
These two fabulous places have teamed up for a Valentine’s special, and I think it’s going to sell out very quickly so if you like the look of it you better get in fast. They’re offering just 20 slots, for a sushi platter, Prosecco and two donuts for desert.
Nudo Sushi
One of my favourite takeaway sushi places, Kieran and I had a sushi night a couple of weeks ago as it’s a good option if you’re being relatively healthy. You can pre order and choose a collection time, and I think you get so much for your money.
In addition to their usual great menu, they have announced a Valentine’s special menu, including a salmon and chicken platter for £15, new poke bowls including prawn and a tofu one, and a range of loaded fries.
visit the nudo website for the full menu and to place your order.
Chaophraya 4 Course Valentines Menu
We had a lovely Chaophraya takeaway a few weeks ago, and they’ve released a special 4 course Valentine’s Menu full of Thai flavours. It’s £65 but worth £85, and pre orders are open now with limited collection slots. I also have an offer code for you, that will give you a free bottle of Prosecco if you order before Wednesday 10th February.
Use StephFoxTravelProsecco when you place your order to receive the free fizz.
View the full Chaophraya Valentine’s Special menu here.
The French Quarter Valentine’s Hampers
I saw these on instagram yesterday – French hampers to bring the romance of Paris into your home. You can only collect on Wednesdays and Thursdays so you need to be organised with not much time left, but they do look fabulous. Details on their instagram page and website of what’s included but it looks like wines, cheese and preserves.
I thought I’d include some suggestions for future stays, seen as Valentine hotel stays are out the window this year. Most hotels are offering vouchers at the moment which always go down well as a Valentine’s gift, but here’s a couple that have stood out to me the last week.
It’s a Date Packages by Le Petit Chateau or Newton Hall
There are two packages available, either the It’s a Date package or the It’s a Date Deluxe package. The It’s a Date package includes a gift hamper delivered to your door on Valentine’s Day, complete with champagne, chocolates, treats and surprises, and a voucher for an overnight stay at either hotel with dinner. This one is £300.
The Deluxe package includes all of the same things, but with Dom Perignon champagne and a ‘fantastical’ overnight stay and dinner. I’m not sure what the ‘fantastical’ refers to but it must be more than standard as this package costs £500.
Ramside Hall Voucher
Ramside Hall are offering a limited edition Valentine’s Day voucher, which for £99 per couple includes use of their infinity pool with a glass of fizz, 4 hour spa use and Asian tapas to share. For £99 I think this is a really great offer considering what you would usually pay for this experience, and the voucher is valid for 12 months. Definitely something to look forward to when we come out of lockdown.
And finally, if all else fails say it with flowers. Take a look at Katherine’s Florist based in Gosforth who have roses in all sorts of bouquets….
Or Fork in the Rose on Heaton Road…
As you can see there are some great options available for Valentine’s Day takeaways, treats and even experiences. Use them to celebrate your partner or someone close to you on 14th February this year, or at any point across that weekend with the flexibility they all have on dates. Places seem to be sharing their specials quite early in order to make sure they have enough collection or delivery slots, so don’t leave it too late to snap up any that take your fancy.
I’ll keep updating this if I see any new ones being added, but however you spend Valentine’s Day this year I hope you enjoy it.
