Valentine’s Day Treats in Newcastle This Week
This Valentine’s Day whether you’re loved up with a partner, enjoying being single, hating the whole concept, or don’t really have an opinion either way – every one of us can be a #luckygirl or #luckyboy with some of the Valentine’s Day treats on offer in and around Newcastle. I’ve been chatting to some of the local cafes, bars and bakeries and have pulled together details of all the limited edition treats they have to offer over the next few days.
Disclaimer: I wasn’t paid or asked to include any of the places, info or imagery in this post, it is all my own opinion. All imagery that wasn’t taken by me is labelled.
The French Oven, Grainger Market
This adorable little French Bakery in the Grainger Market are doing a range of different things, including Valentine chocolate cupcakes, beautifully decorated iced biscuits, love muffins, and my personal favourite, heart shaped pink French macarons!
Pet Lamb Patisserie, Grainger Market
Another great little gem in the Grainger Market, and the girls here are so lovely. The Pet Lamb Patisserie Valentine specials include made to order boxes of Valentine cupcakes – £12 for 6. You can order by either direct message on twitter or instagram, or on their website.
As well as the boxes of cupcakes, they’re doing an incredible looking Valentine Rocky Road, with love hearts, broken party rings, maltesers and lots of chocolate thrown together.
Great British Cupcakery, Quayside
I think this place is the perfect option if you’re celebrating with your girl mates, or if you aren’t celebrating at all. The GBCupcakery is obviously a firm favourite with many since their stunning revamp, it’s a pink paradise and their home made bakes, cakes and shakes taste as good as the place looks. Their Valentine’s XO range includes cupcakes, waffles and geet big shakes.
Proven , Hoult’s Yard
If you live in Newcastle you MUST have heard of Proven by now, especially since they’ve opened their own premises at Hoult’s Yard. Their incredible home made donuts are just to die for, and they sell out daily. For Valentine’s Day they’re making special flavours including chocolate pistachio meringue glaze, and white chocolate custard and ruby chocolate heart.
They’re also branching out and creating passion fruit cream and belgian chocolate dipped shortbread. You can get a box of 6 for £12.50, or if you’re looking for a quick coffee break date then it’s also a great place to go and sit in.
I’m very tempted to head there myself.
Dil & The Bear, Tynemouth
My favourite cafe in Tynemouth and I always love seeing what they’re making for occasions like Valentine’s Day, pancake day and other events.
Their cake pops are legendary, and the perfect little gift for someone, but in addition to their normal ones they’re doing sweet heart cakes, which are chocolate with beautifully decorated pink icing and a chocolate dipped strawberry on top, and a cookie bake with a chocolate heart and sprinkles.
If you can’t sit in then you can always get a cake-away!
Creams, Newcastle
I’ve had this place on my radar for the last week while I’ve been on my diet and craving something sweet. Their Valentine’s range includes the following:
Kiss Me Waffle – topped with strawberry ice cream, raspberry sauce, white chocolate shavings, whipped cream.
Sundae Kiss – strawberry gelato, raspberry sorbet, white chocolate shavings, fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce, creams wafer.
Red Velvet Kiss – hot red velvet cookie dough topped with milk chocolate sauce, raspberry sorbet, milk chocolate shavings, fresh strawberries and topped with whipped cream. This one is the winner for me, red velvet cookie dough say whattttttt?!?!
This range is actually be available at their locations across the UK until Sunday 17th of February, priced from £7.45.
Cake Stories, Jesmond
My favourite Jesmond cafe, I love how relaxed it is and their cakes are so indulgent. I’d go for a red velvet if I were you, but their Valentine’s offering is the Pink Lady white chocolate and strawberry hot chocolate. It looks heavenly with candy hearts and pink whipped cream.
Cake Stories are open late so it’s another good late night coffee bar for a date with whoever you choose!

Naked Deli
A healthier option and I am a big fan of them at the moment, the Naked Deli have created Valentine’s treats in the form of large nut butter heart shaped cups, and strawberry and raspberry cheesecake. You have to order, so be quick and give them a message!
Fenwick’s Food Hall, Newcastle
Always one of my favourite places because they go all out for occasions. When I wandered through a couple of days ago they had Valentine’s Day hampers, cakes at Mason & Rye, and Valentine’s tarts. Of course there is their chocolate counter, a selection of Proven donuts in case you can’t get to their location, Naked Deli can also be found in here, but my personal favourite of all the Valentine’s display was…
…the huge selection of pink gin! What can I say I’m a marketers dream.
Jalou, Newcastle
It’s not all cakes and bakes though, Jalou have created a range of Valentine’s cocktails that are available until Sunday. They’ve catered for everyone as you will see in the names..
Love in this Club – strawberries, beefeater gin, strawberry liquor and lemon juice.
Drunk in Love – citrus vodka and passionfruit liquor, apple juice and passion fruit syrup.
The Boo’d Up – strawberry puree, stoli vanilla, cranberry topped with vanilla cream and red heart dust.
Just a Friend – raspberry puree, disaranno and lemon juice.
I think this is a great effort, Jalou always was one of my favourite bars.
Hotel du Vin, Ouseburn
Not to be outdone Hotel du Vin also have a Valentine’s Day cocktail menu. Theirs go by the names of Long Stem Rose, Ten of Hearts, Whiskey Daisy, French Martini and Cupid. How fabulous.
When I finish work I’m honestly going to have to decide where to head because I fancy a good few of these myself. Thankfully many are available over the weekend too and I’m due a treat.
I’m not really a fan of eating out on Valentine’s Day, it’s all very cheesy, and I think half the North East had the same opinion judging by the crowds in M&S snapping up the dine in for 2 meal – including myself! But these treats are something everyone can get involved in – even if you hate Valentine’s Day I’m sure you love cake!
