Blogmas: Winter Accessories For A Cold & Frosty Winter
As we are all spending a lot more time outside than we ever have, given that it’s the only way to meet up with people, and walks are just about all we can do, I’ve been stocking up on winter accessories, warm layers, a lot of knitwear and winter warmers. Outerwear is the new party wear for 2020. It doesn’t look like restrictions are going to ease much in any tier for January and February either, so here’s my winter accessories for a cold and frosty winter. Hats, scarves, gloves, onesies, fluffy socks, it’s all here.
I could spend HOURS sharing my favourite knitwear and jumpers with you, but for this I’ve kept it to winter accessories and a bit of loungewear only. I’ve gone with a selection of things for a range of budgets. They say you get what you pay for but I don’t think that’s always the case with this type of thing. My £4 Primark scarf has done me very well so far this winter!
Wooly Hats & Hairbands
I have the New Look ribbed bobble hat in black, and it comes in a range of other colours. I also have this one in cream which apparently is slightly different but I can’t see how. The cream is £8.99 and both are very warm and cute.
I usually go for very plain and neutral colours when it comes to winter accessories, aside from the odd bit of leopard print, but I really love this Barbour bobble beanie, called Alpine Fairisle Pom hat. I think it’s a gorgeous pattern and a bit different.
Barbour also have some good gift sets, with a cable knit beanie and scarf coming together in a set for £49.95. Fenwick’s have a range of these in different colours.
For a double pom pom, you could go for this NY one from ASOS, which is £26, or River Island have them in black or cream for slightly cheaper at £15.00.
I’ve seen these in the shop and they are so soft, if you prefer a hairband to keep your ears warm rather than a full hat. The cashmere hairband from H&M comes in three colours, black cream or khaki green for £17.99. I think I might get the cream one.
Chunky Scarves
I have so many scarves but I picked up a cheap £4 one from Primark a while ago and I’ve worn it so much especially when taking Arthur out. It’s oversized and really warm, so if you can brave Primark at the moment have a look. Others I really like include
This grey soft knit tassel check scarf for £13.99, this faux shearling scarf from H&M for £17.99, and this oversize cream chunky knit from ASOS which just looks so cosy, at £16.
Sometimes though you just want a slightly smarter scarf, and Reiss have a beautiful range. They are a lot more expensive though, so maybe one to watch for the sales where you can usually get good savings.
The Iris wool blend in champagne is just stunning, and could be worn well into the spring with it being such a light colour. It’s £60 which I don’t actually think is too bad for it.
The Lydia alpaca wool jumps up in price but alpaca wool is so luxurious that explains the price. I prefer the cream but they also have it in baby blue. There is a slightly cheaper one in a camel colour that is an alpaca wool blend, which is £85.
Gloves
A good pair of gloves is a must for when you can’t wrap your hands around a hot drink, so here’s some of the ones I’ve found…
I saw these All Saints leather gloves a while back and really liked them, they have quite a few pairs and one of them are in the sale for £47.20 . For a more affordable pair of leather gloves check out H&M who have them for £17.99.
Barbour of course have a good collection, I really like the fur trim or the Barbour check gloves which range from £44-49.95.
Oliver Bonas have some very cute grey bobble mittens for £18, and Ugg have some for £125 but I bet they are the warmest gloves you’d ever wear.
Fluffy Socks
I have more pairs of fluffy socks than normal socks, I love coming in and putting them on to lie on the sofa and watch a film.
Places like M&S, John Lewis and Fenwick’s always have a good range, I find them much better than the cheaper ones at Primark as they last so much longer. Of all the ones I have had over the years, Fat Face have been the best by far.
They have a great range and they also sell some of them in Next. That’s where I saw this amazing cream pair with Pom poms, for £24. You can browse the full range here for all sorts of colours and styles, the multicoloured knit ones look fabulous, but there are also some seasonal Christmas ones too.
I have to share these, Pug socks from John Lewis – they’re currently reduced to £6 how cute!
Other Essential Winter Accessories
Comfort dressing has been my outfit of choice for probably 90% of this year, and I’ve had so much wear out of plain hoody’s. I haven’t wanted to spend a fortune on clothes this year as there’s just been no point, so I have looked more at high street than anywhere else to buy in bulk.
H&M’s cotton hoody in all colours has been a god send, in all seasons, and I always size up so they’re extra cosy. I find they last a lot longer without going bobbly than places like New Look, but without being too expensive.
I’m not an earmuffs wearer but if I was I’d have to go for these Ugg ones, they look so nice but being Ugg are £75.
A onesie is an absolute must for the festive season, especially when you’ve overate on Christmas Day and you don’t want to have to worry about waistbands. Supermarkets and of course Primark always have novelty ones, I have a reindeer one that I got from Dorothy Perkins years ago, but John Lewis have this fleecy one which I love as it looks so comfortable.
A winter game changer is a hot water bottle, either to cuddle up to or put in the bed before you get in it. I can’t have an electric blanket they scare me, so a hot water bottle does the trick instead. Have a look at this pink knit one from Asda for just £5, or this grey faux fur one from Lakeland for £14.99 in the sale.
When it comes to slippers I will never look back from my White Company fur ones. They’re like having water bottles on your feet and are very much worth the £35. These aren’t the exact ones I have but they’re the latest version.
Two local businesses
I’ve mentioned a lot of department and high street stores in this post, but I want to mention two local businesses who can also bring the cosy for you this winter. Firstly have a look at More Mia’s loungewear sets. She’s based in the North East and has loungewear in three different colours, and a price range from £25-£29.
Follow the full More MIa boutique on Instagram here.
And finally to really round off the cosy warm vibes for this winter check out Knit Knot North, for those huge chunky blankets or scarves. Sam is running her business also from the North East, and she’s at the Fenwick’s local business fair next week from 20th – 23rd December.
Follow Knit Knot North on Instagram to see her creations here.
As we still have to meet people outside, wrapping up in winter accessories, getting a takeaway hot chocolate, and making the most of winter walks continues to be pretty much all we can do. At least we will be warm!
