Lake District Lifestyle Spa Breaks Travel UK

Winter Spa Deals In The Lake District & North Yorkshire

You might have seen my post a couple of days ago on the best spa deals and breaks I found for this winter in the North East. As I explained in that post I spent a lot of time last week searching every spa I could think of to get a good deal for the end of January, and that wasn’t just limited to the North East. There are a lot of excellent winter spa deals in the Lake District and North Yorkshire too if you’re prepared to travel slightly further, so here’s some of the best ones I found.

It’s worth noting that a good deal in the Lake District doesn’t necessarily mean cheap. The Lakes is bloody expensive these days, and many places require a minimum 2 night stay especially at weekends which naturally bumps the price up. But as is often the case, you get what you pay for, and that’s certainly true of my experience of Lake District hotels.

Lake District

Brimstone Spa

I adore this place. We enjoyed a spa day here last May as part of our stay in one of the Langdale Estate luxury lodges, and I’m not going to beat about the bush, it’s not cheap. Staying in the Brimstone Hotel itself gets you free access to the spa, but rooms start in the hundreds even midweek.

You can pay a £90 fee to use the spa for a few hours if you’re staying in either the Langdale Hotel or one of the Langdale Lodges on the same complex, but this doesn’t include any treatments. If you do pay for a treatment, you get access to the spa too.

A Luxury Stay at the Langdale Estate & Brimstone Spa in the Lake District

Despite all of these options usually being pretty pricey, there is a Just Relax Spa Break offer currently available at the Langdale Hotel. For £195, you get your room in the hotel, plus full unlimited access to the Brimstone spa for your stay. As this usually requires the additional cost, it is a good saving despite being at the higher end of the scale.

The spa itself is beautiful, read my full post on the Langdale and Brimstone Spa here.

Armathwaite Hall

A stately home on Bassenthwaite Lake, this place offers a huge range of activities in addition to just the spa. But if it’s the spa you’re after it looks very relaxing, with outdoor infinity pool and outdoor hot tub, saunas, steam rooms and lots of relaxation areas.

Spa experiences on offer include:

Be Well January Half Spa day: Choose a four hour slot from three different times of the day during January, and get full access to the spa and a 70 minute aromatherapy facial. You also get a free face cream. The cost is £105 per person.

Sunrise Spa: A morning half spa day starting at 7:30am, including full access to the facilities, followed by brunch in the Courtyard Brasserie, and tea or coffee. Available Monday to Thursday for £35 per person. For this time in the morning all the way over in the Lake District you probably need to be staying somewhere over there to get the most of it.

Rejuvenate Spa Experience: Similar to the sunrise spa but in the evening, this includes four hours access to the spa and gym. It is only available on Thursday and Friday evenings from 5:30pm. Also £35 per person.

Winter Retreat Overnight Stay: This is a great offer on an overnight stay that also gets you full access to the spa facilities while you’re there, as well as breakfast and dinner in either the Lake View restaurant or Courtyard Brasserie. Rooms start from £199 for a Club Double and this deal is significantly cheaper than all other rooms or breaks at the Armathwaite. Available until 26th March.

Lodore Hall & Spa

In the beautiful lakeside setting of Borrowdale, the Lodore Hall & Spa is a favourite of my parents, who say the environment of the spa rivals Brimstone. I’ve not been myself but I have had a look through their site and it looks fabulous.

Lodore Falls Hotel

As you’d expect for such a luxury place nothing comes cheap, but if you’re looking for a deal there are some rooms on midweek nights for £200 – including dinner, bed and breakfast. You are required to pay an extra £25 per person for spa access.

Further details on the Lodore Hall & Spa here.

The North Lakes Hotel & Spa

On the edge of the Lake District, this 4 star beautiful hotel is located in Penrith, and is one of the more affordable options when it comes to spa deals. It has everything you need for a spa break – a big pool, sauna, steam room, gym and spa pool. Some of the current offers include:

The Short Break: Includes either 1 or 2 nights stay, use of the spa facilities and a 10% discount on treatments, a bottle of champagne, £30 dinner allowance per person, and full breakfast. It is £99 per person for 1 night or £89 per person for 2 nights. A pretty good deal in my opinion!

One Night Spa Break: This is similar to the above in terms of accommodation, dinner and breakfast, however it also includes a 25 minute taster spa treatment per person. This offer is £139, and there is 10% off any additional treatments you choose to book.

Sunday Getaway: If you’re under no pressure to get to work on Mondays, the Sunday getaway is excellent value at just £59 per person, for a one night stay, 25% discount on all food, drinks and spa treatments, breakfast, and full use of the general spa facilities while you’re there.

Gilpin Hotel & Spa

One of the most incredible hotels I’ve come across in the Lake District, and one often used for Honeymoons or special occasions, this one even brings the spa to your room. Well, some of the rooms, the spa lodges that come with your own private hot tub. These start at £245 for one midweek night, and go up in price, and require 2 night stays at weekends.

There aren’t actually spa facilities at the Gilpin, other than the spa lodges themselves, all spa access is offsite and full details can be found here.

North East Blogger New Girl in Toon actually had her mini moon here, have a read of her review here.

The Daffodil hotel and Spa

Located in Grasmere the Daffodil Hotel and Spa sells itself as a home away from home. It is family run, has 78 rooms, a lake view restaurant and a spa with thermal pool, saunas and steam rooms. Offers you can currently get are:

Winter Wanderlust: This is essentially a hotel stay, one night starting from £119 with spa access.

New Year, New You Full Day Spa: A day in the spa including a fully body exfoliation treatment, a full body massage for 55mins, and a classic facial for 55 mins too. A full day with this many treatments is just £120 per person so if you’re into treatments its a good one.

January Detox Half Day: This is similar to the full day but half the time spent on treatments. You get a back exfoliation, a back massage for 25 minutes and an express facial for 25 minutes. Still great value at £90 per person.

North Yorkshire

There are obviously more than 2 spas in the whole of North Yorkshire, but the two I had recommended to me to look at were these two.

Faversham Arms Hotel & Spa

I was recommended this place a couple of years ago but have never actually been. It’s part of the Mr & Mrs Smith collection, and they have some good offers for couples on at the moment.

Total Timeout: One of the only places I’ve seen that do this, but they will give you early access to the spa on the day you arrive, from 11am even if your room isn’t ready to check in yet. You also get the overnight stay and a three course meal in the Weathervane restaurant, as well as breakfast. £119.50 per person.

Complete Retreat: Available to book until the start of April, this offer includes your overnight stay and breakfast, a two course dinner, breakfast, access to the spa facilities and a 30 minute treatment of your choice from a massage, facial or foot and leg treatment. The cost is £250 per couple.

Rudding Park Hotel

I spent a lot of time looking at this one, as I think it looks fabulous, but despite having some good half and full day spa breaks, the cost was still just a bit too high for this time round. I also think it’s one for the summer due to the big glass windows and rooftop spa, but despite this there are some winter offers. Choose from:

Sleeping Beauty Spa Break: a stay at Rudding Park with dinner bed and breakfast, access to the spa as well as an allocated time slot in the Rooftop spa,and a 45 minute treatment. This is £193 per person.

New Year Spa Day: Available until end of January, this New Year offer includes a full day in the spa from 10am-6pm, a 45 minute treatment, use of the spa facilities including the rooftop spa, morning and afternoon refreshment as well as lunch. For £125 I think it’s good value and more affordable than their overnight stays.

So you can see that the winter spa deals in the Lake District and North Yorkshire can still be pretty pricey, but there’s no denying that for the beautiful backdrops, lakeland views and hearty meals if you can afford to splash out a bit, will likely be totally worth it.
